King and Lionheart by thehoyden.  Explicit, 56,000+ words.  Canon Divergence, Marriage of Convenience, Evgeni Malkin/Sidney Crosby.

There are so many of my favorite things in this fic that I'm not quite sure where to begin.  It literally opens with a wedding on the tarmac, Geno fresh off the plane following his defection to the NHL.  So bingo number one: marriage of convenience.  Their relationship starts out affectionate but platonic: friends to lovers.  Sidney accidentally tells Geno 'I love you' at an inopportune/delicate moment: accidental feels.  This story also contains: lots of ribbing amongst the Pens, domestic fluff (the division of chores is particularly adorable), children of the team unanimously adoring Sidney, pets, and holiday fun.

Perhaps the most intriguing twist was the decision to ignore the likely challenges of societal/league homophobia.  It was definitely the right choice for the story, allowing thehoyden to focus on the relationship development rather than the 'us against the world' drama that many Hockey slash stories get mired in.  Those are stories worth telling, but they're difficult to do well and they're rarely this lighthearted.  Plus, the usual mixture of levity and raw honesty that characterizes thehoyden's writing is a perpetual favorite of mine in any fandom.  Definitely worth a read.

There are several things that occur to Sidney when he wakes up: one, his family didn't have a chance to come to his wedding, and his mother is going to take a long time to forgive him for that, to say nothing of his father.  Two, Zhenya's arm is a little bit heavy where it's draped over Sidney's waist, but it's not unpleasant.

Three, Flower is going to kill him.

If you like this story, here are some other stories by the same writer that I've enjoyed:

Darling It Is No Joke, Teen Wolf, Stiles Stilinski/Derek Hale, Explicit, 13,000+ words, Law Enforcement Human AU.  The first thing Stiles thinks when he opens his door is that it's not his birthday, but someone has sent him some kind of cop stripper.

From Westminster With Love, Sherlock (TV)/XMFC Crossover, Erik Lenssher/Charles Xavier, Mycroft Holmes, Explicit, 16,000+ words, Modern AU.  NATO intelligence says there's an omega-class telepath who sleeps under Westminster.  Major Erik Lenssher is about to find out the truth for himself.

Tour de Force, Hockey RPF, Jonathan Toews/Patrick Kane, Explicit, 23,000+ words, Patrick Needs a Hobby Canon Divergence.  "Write what you know" was good enough advice for Jo March, so it's good enough for Patrick Kane.

Destination, NCIS, Anthony DiNozzo/Jethro Gibbs, Mature, 6,000+ words, Epistolary, Canon Divergence-Post Season 5.  It's like a bad joke, Gibbs and Fornell walk into an elevator.  When they walk out, Gibbs says, "Pack your bags, DiNozzo--you're going on a trip."

Contingency, DCU, Bruce Wayne/Dick Grayson, Explicit, 9,000+ words.  "I didn't plan for this," Bruce says after a few minutes, and he sounds bewildered.
